What are they?

The reward may be a nominative, figurative or emblematic sign, given as an award, a praise or preference demonstration to industrialists, traders, farmers and others for the excellence of their products.

It is considered a Reward (art. 271st of the Industrial Property Code):

  • Merit decorations awarded by the Portuguese or Foreign States;
  • Medals, diplomas and pecuniary, or of any other type, prizes, obtained in official, or of official recognition, exhibitions, fairs and contests held in Portugal or other foreign countries;
  • Diplomas and analysis, or honor, certificates issued by laboratories or State Services or bodies qualified for such;
  • Head of State, Government or other official establishments’ supplier titles, national or foreign;

Any other prizes, or preference demonstrations, of official character

The registration of rewards guarantees the veracity and authenticity of the titles granted and ensures their exclusive use to their holders for indefinite time.

Pursuant to article 274th of the C.P.I., the reward registry request is made through an application written in Portuguese in which it is indicated:

  1. The name, firm or the corporate name of the applicant, its nationality and its address or place in which it is established;
  2. The rewards for which the registry is intended, entities which awarded them and respective dates;
  3. The products or services which deserved the granting;
  4. The name of the establishment to which the reward is related, either in whole or in part, when appropriate.

Originals or certified copies of the diplomas shall be attached to the application, or other supporting documents. The proof of granting of the reward can also be done by attaching a copy, duly legalized, of the official publication in which the reward was granted or published, or only the necessary and sufficient part of it. (Article 275th of the C.P.I.).

The registry expires when the granting of the reward is repealed or cancelled.
